Lagos Steps Up Security, Schools and Worship Centres Now on Full Police Watch

So here’s what’s happening in Lagos, if you’ve been seeing more police officers around schools, churches, mosques, or even just on your regular route, it’s not random. The Lagos State Police Command has quietly switched into higher gear, and honestly, with the way the country has been feeling lately, it’s not surprising.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, this isn’t supposed to scare anyone. In fact, he says the whole point is to make people less worried. Think of it like the police saying, “Don’t panic, we’re just making sure nothing funny happens.”

They’re not playing around at all,  they’ve increased patrols, put more tactical teams on standby, assigned officers specifically to watch over schools, and even deployed those new gunboats they launched recently for the waterways. Yes, actual gunboats. There’s also something called the “Submarine Tactical Squad.” Lagos doesn’t want to be caught sleeping.

But beyond all the official statements, what this really means is simple, they’re trying to make sure children can go to school safely, and people can pray, learn, and live their lives without worrying about insecurity. They also want Lagosians to stay alert and report anything suspicious. Basically, “We’re doing our part, please help us do the rest.”

At the end of the day, everyone just wants a city where you can move around without clutching your chest in fear. So if you notice more police outside your school, church, mosque, or along your street, now you know why.
