Gunmen Reportedly Attack Immigration Office In Ogbomoso, Cart Away Firearms

Suspected gunmen reportedly attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday night, making away with firearms belonging to officers on duty.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. at the Immigration office located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway near an NNPC filling station. The attackers were said to have stormed the facility while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the armed men overpowered officers on duty before carting away their weapons. However, the exact number of firearms stolen had yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene under the cover of darkness, leaving security agencies scrambling to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not received an official briefing on the incident and would provide updates when more information becomes available.

The reported attack comes at a time when concerns over security in Ogbomoso and other parts of Oyo State remain high. In recent weeks, the area has witnessed a series of security incidents, including the abduction of students, teachers, and school officials in Oriire Local Government Area.

If confirmed, the attack on a federal security facility would raise fresh questions about the boldness of criminal elements and the security architecture protecting public institutions in the state.

As of press time, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other relevant authorities had issued a detailed statement regarding the incident.
