Popular Nigerian Biker And Photographer Kola Onifoto Dies After Lone Motorcycle Crash In Lagos

The Nigerian creative community is mourning the tragic loss of Kola Onifoto, the vibrant photographer, travel enthusiast and brand influencer who died following a lone motorcycle accident in Lagos.

Onifoto, whose real name was Orowole Samuel Kolapo, 32 years, lost his life in the early hours of Monday, March 2, 2026, after doctors fought to stabilise him for hours.

The crash occurred on Sunday, March 1, during what Onifoto had described as his first solo motorcycle trip outside Lagos. Shortly before setting out, he announced on Facebook that he was heading to Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on his bike.

In the post, he gave a heartfelt shoutout to bikers who had travelled across Nigeria and beyond.

“Big shout out to those who have ridden their bikes to every state in this country, to Africa, and across the world, especially women. My eye see wheeen,” he wrote, expressing admiration for the resilience and courage of long-distance riders.

It was a moment that reflected his personality: adventurous, inspired and deeply connected to the biking community he had recently joined.

In January, Onifoto had proudly celebrated becoming a biker, describing it as a long-time life goal achieved. He shared a photo posing beside his new motorcycle and wrote on X:

“I recently became a new biker. One of my life dreams clocked and achieved! I won’t fall and die on this – Amen!”

The post has since resurfaced online, adding a painful layer of irony to the tragedy and deepening the emotional response from followers.

Following the accident, he was initially rushed to the emergency unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps at 7up, Ojota. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba.

Friends, fans and colleagues flooded social media with prayers and hopeful messages as news of his hospitalization spread. Despite medical efforts and widespread support, he did not survive.

Details surrounding the exact cause of the crash remain unclear as of press time.

News of Onifoto’s death triggered an overwhelming wave of tributes across social media. Fellow bikers described him as fearless and passionate. Friends remembered his warmth and creative spirit. Followers called him inspiring, bold and relentlessly positive.

Many noted how he had just begun fully embracing the biker lifestyle, documenting his journey and encouraging others to chase their dreams without hesitation.

His passing has particularly shaken Nigeria’s biking and creative communities, where he was known not just for his photography but for his vibrant storytelling, daring travels and motivational posts.

Motorcycle culture has grown significantly in Nigeria in recent years, with more young professionals embracing biking for leisure, travel and community. However, long-distance and solo rides can carry significant risks, especially on highways with heavy traffic, inconsistent road conditions and unpredictable driving patterns.

Onifoto’s death has reignited conversations around motorcycle safety, protective gear, emergency response systems and the realities of road travel in Nigeria.

Beyond the headlines, Kola Onifoto was a creative who lived boldly. Whether behind a camera lens or astride his motorcycle, he embodied movement, exploration and self-expression.

He had just achieved what he called one of his life dreams. In chasing it, he inspired many others to pursue theirs.

His story is one of passion fulfilled, community built and a life that, though cut short, left a lasting imprint.

He is survived by family, friends and a community that continues to honour his adventurous spirit.
