The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and banditry across Abuja and surrounding communities.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, announced that four suspects were arrested during an anti-kidnapping operation carried out on June 9 in the Paze–Byazhin area of the FCT.
The suspects have been identified as Yahaya Abdullahi, Muhammed Yunusa, Hauwa Shafiu, and Shamsudeen Mustapha.
According to CP Sanusi, preliminary investigations show that the suspects are part of a criminal network allegedly involved in kidnapping and banditry activities within the FCT and nearby regions.
He further revealed that one of the suspects, Hauwa Shafiu, who reportedly served as a logistics supplier and cook for the gang and their victims, was heavily pregnant at the time of her arrest. She has since delivered a baby boy while in police custody.
The police commissioner added that both mother and child are receiving adequate medical care.
Items recovered during the operation include four motorcycles, 31 tablets of 500mg tramadol, 10 tablets of 50mg tramadol, ₦320,000 in cash, five mobile phones, one POS machine, and cooking utensils.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the FCT.
